As the name of them suggests, cast iron sinks are made of iron and some of them are made out of recycled iron, a kind of eco-friendly material. In general, porcelain enamel is put on the surfaces of the cast iron sinks, making them smooth, glossy and more durable. Many people love cast iron sinks, especially those who have high-end houses. However, there are also some people also dislike this kind of sink because of their unhappy drawbacks. It’s necessary to learn about the advantages and disadvantages of cast iron sinks. So here I have a rough list of pros and cons of the cast iron sinks as follows.

Pros of cast iron sinks:
1. Easy maintenance. Cast iron sinks can be cleaned easily. Just a lint-free cloth and cleaning solution will help you wipe the dirt off the sinks.
2. Heat-retaining. The special raw material makes cast iron sinks available to retain heat for quite a while. This is good for you when doing plenty of dishes.
3. Versatility. Cast iron sinks come in various colors and designs.
4. Eco-friendly. Some cast iron sinks are made of recycled iron, making them a good eco-friendly sink option.
5. Durable. Cast iron sinks can be used for many years. They are more unlikely to get cracks and dents even after being used for a long time.

Cons of cast iron sinks:
1. Easy to rust. The porcelain enamel on the cast iron sinks can be scratched or chipped off if it is not handled carefully and well, making it easier to rust.
2. Heavy. Cast iron sinks are much heavier than the sinks of other materials.
3. High price. Cast iron sinks are very expensive due to their raw materials and complicated production processes. And the installation costs of this kind of sink are really high.
